Lubbock, Texas; a city located some 325 west of Dallas, Texas
and 125 miles south of Amarillo, Texas is the eleventh largest
city in the State of Texas. The Lubbock Metro Area and immediate
surrounding communities contain a population of nearly 250,000 people.
Lubbock is often referred to by the nickname Hub City, a well-deserved
nickname because the city is a hub to numerous highways and transportation
routes which connect the city to surrounding cities and towns throughout
Texas and other neighboring states.Lubbock is home to a number of colleges and universities including Lubbock Christian University, and branch campuses to South Plains College and Wayland Baptist University. Yet, it is Texas Tech University with its near-30,000 student enrollment and one of the largest-acreage contiguous land campuses in the nation that is most often remembered in connection with the Hub City. Lubbock has been often remembered for its contribution to the world of music, as many musicians such as Buddy Holly, Mac Davis, Waylon Jennings and others have called Lubbock and the South Plains home at one time. As well, the Lubbock area is home to a wealth of history and culture that can be explored in one of Lubbocks numerous museums and points of interest.
